Welp, I went to the dark side; I bought an electric lawnmower. I like gasoline powered engines, and the manly stereotypes linked to those beautiful machines. After hearing positive reviews about electric mowers, I gave in. The main concern I have about electric mowers is their power supply. Would I have enough battery power to mow my yard? If I lack power my lawn potentially could look ugly and look out of control. How is my new electric mower working out? So far so good.
It is similar in our lives; we need spiritual power. Without God’s power, our lives start to look like an unkempt lawn: tall grass, weeds, and untended. When we trust in Christ, He empowers and tends to our lives. Then, like someone driving by our homes, people look at our lives and see that things are in proper order.
How do you trust in Jesus and receive His power?
Pray
One basic way we show our trust in Jesus is by bringing our concerns to Him through prayer. The Bible says in Philippians 4, “Do not be anxious about anything… present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds.” How is the supernatural power received? By lifting our requests to God through prayer. No matter how small or big your prayer request, bring them to God and you will receive power.
Find Ways to Serve
Trusting in Jesus involves action. If you need spiritual power, it is not a time to refrain, it is a time to act. Like turning the “on button” on my electric mower, we must be obedient. By doing this, we receive the power that Jesus wants to give us. The “on button” for spiritual power is activate when we do what God is asking. Get plugged into a ministry at your local church, serve the community, help someone in their time of need. Find ways to serve and power from on high will “turn on” in your life.
Let the Bible Pour into your Life
A non-negotiable in my life is to read God’s Word every single day. Why? Reading the Bible is like sitting in a chair across from Jesus and having him speaks words of love, encouragement, and guidance into your life. With every word from the Bible, there is power for your journey. Read the Bible, listen to sermons, go to a Bible study, join a small group. Feed off God’s Word and watch your spiritual battery reach its full potential.
Trusting in Jesus is never supposed to be easy; it is supposed to be worth it. If you need spiritual power in your life right now, Jesus is ready to fill up your spiritual battery. After your battery is full, people are going to drive by your life and see that the lawn care expert has been at work.
