My daughters always want more, but lack commitment to what they already have been given. For example, my older daughter wants a parakeet and another dog. Yet, she complains that she has to take her 1-year-old dog outside on a walk. I would love to give them more. I always tell my daughters I need to see their commitment to what they have already been given, first. They more I see their commitment, the more I will give to them (minus a parakeet and another dog).
God is similar. God looks for our commitment before he sends his power our way. There are no loopholes, for us to have God’s power in our lives, we have to commit our lives and our decision making to Jesus, first.
There is a story I heard about W. C. Fields. Fields was an early 20th century actor, comedian, and writer. Fields’s comic persona was a crude and hard-drinking egocentric who seemed to be in a continual state of inebriation. During the final illness of his life, he was hospitalized and he was not given much hope of survival. When one of Field’s long-time friends came to visit him in the hospital room, the friend was shocked to see Field’s reading the Bible. The friend knew Field’s disdain for religion so he asked in amazement, “W. C., what in the world are you doing?” Fields replied, “I’m looking for a loophole.”
Some of us may not be seeing the power of God that we have access to, because we are looking for the loophole around commitment. Friends, there are no loop holes. We have to commit our lives and our decision making to Jesus. What is the good news? When you commit to Jesus the power of God will follow.
Is there anything new in your life that doesn’t seem like you’re getting the results you use to? Have you committed it to Jesus? If not, commit it to the Lord and watch the power of God come like a mighty wind that will grab your sail and move you forward.
