3 Steps for a Spiritual Recovery

“Don’t sell God short on what he can do in a non-conventional season of your life.”

“Don’t sell God short on what he can do in a non-conventional season of your life.”

The “B” word. In the Christian world we don’t like talking about. It’s a word that crosses all our minds, but we never want to say it. What is it? Burnout. We all face it at one time or another. What should you do when you feel like you are burning out? How do you get back on track? Here are three steps.

Step 1 Realize, you’re in a normal cycle.

When we serve God, we always start out with great energy and enthusiasm. As time passes, our energy and enthusiasm wanes; that is as normal as being tired at the end of a work-day. When you’re tired at the end of the work-day, what do you do? You rest. Realize you’re in a normal cycle, and rest.

When you’re tired at the end of the work-day, what do you do? You rest. Realize you’re in a normal cycle, and rest.

Step 2 Find Support.

Last winter, we had a large pile of snow on top of a small pine tree by our house. The weight of the snow bent one of the limbs to where we thought we may have to get rid of the tree. Instead, we staked a steel pole into the ground, took a rope, and attached it to the limb. When Spring was over, the limb gained enough strength to stand back on its own. If it wasn’t for the steel pole, the tree would be mulch somewhere.  Who are the support people in your life? Who do you have that will pray for you? If you are out of spiritual position you need to ask people you trust to pray and support you. Find and call on your support people. They will be like a steel pole in your life.

Step 3 Watch for fruit, no matter the size.

Often, we think we’ll only see spiritual fruit during the exciting times of our spiritual lives. The Bible is clear that a follower of Christ will see fruit during every season. Don’t sell God short on what he can do in a non-conventional season of your life. Get in position; serve, remained in prayer, and watch God produce new spiritual fruit in you!
